In a "Cheerful" Mood (Open)

Layla had finished her homework for the evening and was bored, so she decided to go down to the Rec Room and see if anyone was there to hang out with. She actually hadn't been to this room yet and was anxious to check it out. Instead, the whole time since she moved to the Institute she had been exploring outside and enjoying the warm weather before it faded into Fall. Also, before school started again she got a chance to speak to Professor Xavier who had given her a holographic watch so that she could attend her first year of high school without people seeing her kitty ears and tail. Layla was so grateful for it, because she didn't want to miss her Freshman year, and thanks to the device she was able to try out for the Bayville High School cheerleading team and got accepted! She just wished that the watch didn't look so boy-ish... Not exactly stylish...

Right now though, she had her watch off to save battery power, so her black kitty ears and tail were visible. She was wearing gray Pink brand yoga pants, and a light blue Aeropostal tshirt. The mansion seemed a little deserted tonight. 'Maybe everyone's busy or sleeping early tonight...' thought Layla. She really hadn't met many people in this whole mansion yet, but then again she usually went off exploring and hunting in her cat form, or stayed in her room to do homework. She was a good student and wanted to start off her High School years on the A Honor Roll.

Finally she found the Rec Room, walked in, and wasn't surprised to find it empty... It was a big room with billiard tables, ping pong tables, carpet-ball board, dance floor with mirrors, and exercise machines. Since there was no one to play any games with, Layla walked over to the dance floor and stood in front of the mirrors and began practicing her cheerleading. Homecoming week was coming up soon and she wanted to make sure she knew all the cheers for the football game.

"Bayville, Bayville! Don't be shy! Stand and give your battle cry!" she chanted while clapping to the beat of each word, then switched to a fist pump in the air for the next part "V.I.C.T.O.R.Y.!! That's our Bayville battle cry!" And she repeated the cheer a couple more times, and practiced her leg-splits-jumps.

Kurt, having been up in his room listening to music and doing his homework pretty much sense he came home from school, now hopped off his bed and wanted to find something else to do, hopefully outside his room. He then stood on his two blue toed feet and just heard a gurgling sound coming from his stomach.

"Time to get somezing to eat" Kurt said to himself. he then walked over to his nightstand next to his bed and put on his own holo-watch and hit the button to show a normal Pale skinned, five fingered, blue eyed, 17 year old boy. He knew that there was a new student, Layla, in the Institute, but really never had the experience to formally meet her and talk to her, He didn't know what Layla also had a tail and cat ears, and ironically she never really met Kurt face to face either and the one time she did see Kurt, was her first night at the Institute at dinner, and she was introduced to everyone, she greeted Scott, Jean, Kitty, Rouge, Bobby, Rahne, Amara, Storm, Beast, and Kurt. But at the time Kurt was wearing his watch at dinner so she didn't look at him twice or anything.

Kurt was always nervous around new students, using Kitty as an example, when Kurt first introduced himself when she first arrived. Kitty screamed when she saw Kurt, and thought he was a real Demon. Seeing how Kurt did very much look like a demon. But over time Kitty and Kurt became Close friends. But Kurt still gets scared when he shows his real self around new students. But Kurt didn't know that Layla had a few noticeable things on her physical person, as Layla as well didn't know what Kurt really had blue fur, fangs, pointy ears, or a tail, or that he could teleport. Layla just thought that Kurt had a strange mutation but couldn't really guess what it was.

Kurt was off with a "BAMF" he landed in the kitchen and ruffled through the fridge, he put himself together a sandwich and got a can of cola. he decided to walk back to his room instead of porting, this would reduce the chance of messing up his snack. On his way to the stairs he walked past the Rec. Room and saw the new girl Layla, in front of the mirror doing what to him looked like moves a cheerleader would do, Kurt didn't know that she actually was practicing her cheer-leading moves.

Layla did some stretches before continuing with her cheer practicing. Stretches were very important and she didn't want to pull a muscle or anything in the beginning of the sports seasons. She sat on the floor, the tip of her furry kitty tail twitching back and forth, and reached her arms as far as she could to reach her toes. When she thought she had stretched enough, she stood back up to continue her cheers. She clapped a fast steady beat as she shouted, "T... T.R.U... T.R.U.C.K. Keep on truckin' all the way!" and ended it by hopping to the side while saying "Keep on truckin' all the way". She repeated it with the clapping at the letters, then hopping to the other side during the 2nd part. Afterward, she did a back flip, touching her hands to the floor in mid-flip, and ended it with a high kick.

Layla stood there for a moment to catch her breath. She examined herself in the mirror with her cat-like eyes and fixed her long wavy dark hair. Suddenly, her feline senses kicked in gear and her cat ears flicked around. Then through the mirror she noticed someone standing outside the door of the Rec Room and jumped a little bit. It was one of the other X-Men team members, a high school boy who was a couple years older than her. She hadn't expected anyone to be watching her practicing cheers and she suddenly became very self conscious about herself and she blushed a little bit in embarrassment. He was pale skinned, and had shoulder length blue-ish black hair, and was also eating a sandwich by the looks of it. Layla tried to remember what his name was, because she had never actually met him. She only saw him once, at the huge dining table on the night she arrived. Kurt, maybe? She wasn't sure, and she also didn't know what sort of powers he had.

She had only officially met a few other mutants here. Siro, who's power was very dangerous and wouldn't let him physically touch anyone. Then there was Jake and Animal, other shape sifters. And she also briefly met a Brotherhood mutant outside in the backyard one night, Makoto, who had turned into a cat boy, similar to herself, when he was within range of her.

Well, she didn't know any of the main X-Men team members, the first ones who had apparently arrived before the Newer Recruits, but she thought most of the older high school boys here were cute, including this one who had been watching her. Not knowing what to do, and feeling awkward wondering if she really sucked at cheerleading, she simply turned around to hide her pink face.

Kurt went from a curious look, to a sad look, the new girl had noticed him standing there, and she looked embarrassed. He knew that making the new student feel uncomfortable when she doesn't even know him, or hasn't even been here for very long.

"Um....Hello" Kurt said with his German accent, the girl didnt respond. "My name is Kurt, You're zhat new girl aren't you? Vhat is your name?", she still said nothing, "Can you still at least tell vhat you are doing?"


Layla was worried now, she was hoping that this boy didnt notice the cat like appendages, luckily Kurt wasn't paying attention that well, and he was standing at some what of a distance, so he did not clearly see the tail and ears and just thought they were just his eyes playing tricks on him. He just looked at her gain.

"Vell, Welcome to Bayville" Kurt didnt notice wat else to say, he was feeling awkward already and just went back to his room hoping that he didnt upset the new girl some how?

Layla had been so absorbed with her own thoughts of embarrassment that she hadn't noticed he had spoken to her. It wasn't until after he had said, "Welcome to Bayville", that she realized he had said something and she turned around. He was gone, and suddenly Layla felt guilty that she had even turned around to hide her blushing in the first place. This wasn't like her at all. She was usually very friendly, but she couldn't understand why she had acted so shy all of a sudden. Even in the past when she talked to cute boys at her Jr High and Elementary schools, Layla wasn't this shy. Maybe it was the fact that she was now a mutant, or that she was a new Freshman in a brand new high school. Whatever the reason, Layla felt bad now for not actually talking to him.

She tried to shake herself free of these thoughts and shifted into a small black cat and ran back to her room, but the whole way back there she couldn't completely clear her mind.
